Students use top-tier software to image petroleum reservoirs

The R.L. Bolin Petroleum Geology Laboratory is a computing facility to support advanced teaching and research in oil and gas exploration and production. Workstations permit students and faculty to digitize and process analog data, incorporate digital files, assess correlations, construct images of the subsurface, and model reservoir characteristics.

In addition to quality software purchased by the lab, additional software for the lab has been generously donated by Schlumberger and IHS.  The software available includes Schlumberger Petrel for geological modeling, Schlumberger Eclipse for dynamic reservoir simulation, IHS Petra for mapping, cross sections, well log plotting, and volumetric calculations, and IHS Kingdom Suite for seismic interpretation.

The Robert L. Bolin Petroleum Geology Laboratory is managed by Dr. W. S. Meddaugh
