Admission Requirements and Application Process
In order to be considered for admission to any of the Wilson School of Nursing graduate programs, you must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a BSN degree from a nationally accredited program.
- Have a current RN license to practice in the State of Texas and your state of residence.
- Have a GPA of at least 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate work, exclusive of credit hours awarded by a two-year college.
- Complete the application process for the Graduate School which includes the following:
- Complete an application to the Graduate School (fee required)
- Submission of official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
- Please visit the Graduate School webpage for the latest information related to graduate education.
- Complete the online Wilson School of Nursing MSN Application including the essay section. Please use this application for both degree-seeking and post-graduate certificate programs.
- Participate in a personal interview with the graduate program coordinator for your program of interest.
- This interview will be scheduled only after all applications and transcripts have been received.
- Admission to Nurse Practitioner programs is dependent on previous nursing experience. Applicants MUST have at least one year experience in the field in which they are applying. For example, applicants to the PMHNP program need at least one year experience working in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Applicants to the FNP program need at least one year experience in general nursing.
CURRENT APPLICATION DEADLINES
MSN Application Open: January 1 - April 15
Post-Graduate Certificate Application Open: July 1 - October 31
MSN Degree Applicants
- The MSN Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) programs only admit in the Fall semester.
- All transcripts must be submitted to the graduate office by the application deadline to be considered for admission to the FNP and PMHNP programs. You should allow at least one month for official documents to be received by the university.
- The Nurse Educator program is no longer accepting applications.

Post-Graduate Certification Applicants
- An applicant who has earned a BSN and a master's or higher degree from a nationally accredited institution of higher education may be accepted on the basis of such degree. Determination of conditions, if any, will be made by the Graduate Coordinator.
- All transcripts and applications must be submitted to the graduate office by October 15th to be considered for admission to the Post-Graduate Certificate FNP and PMHNP programs. Students will be admitted for either a Spring or Summer start, based on transcript evaluation.
- Certificate Programs
- The Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate Programs require a masters degree in nursing (MSN). The program consists of advanced nursing practice courses mandated by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
- The Nursing Education Certificate Program requires a either a MSN or a BS in nursing and a master's degree in a related field to earn a certificate in Nursing Education or to meet the Texas Board of Nursing requirements for teaching in a nursing program. The Nurse Educator program is no longer accepting applications .
