New Student Orientation is a program that is required for all new entering undergraduates at MSU Texas. Whether you are a first year student or transferring, getting started at MSU Texas is a big step.

The New Student Orientation requirement can be met by either of the following options:

 1. Completing New Student Orientation Online

This option is available to distance education students as well as new transfer students (a transfer student is defined at MSU as a student with 18 transferable college credit hours completed AFTER high school graduation). It will also be available to all Summer I students, including new freshmen, as our Summer I on-campus session has been canceled.

All video content must be watched from start-to-finish. Completion and eligibility is verified by the MSU Orientation Staff within 24 hours Monday-Friday. Once your completion and eligibility is verified, your Orientation Hold will be updated to reflect completion of the New Student Orientation requirement. You will also be sent an email to confirm that your New Student Orientation requirement is complete.

The Online Orientation link will be available on this page on April 16, 2020.

2. Attending a New Student Orientation Session at MSU

  • Summer I: The Summer I Session originally scheduled for May 28, 2020 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All Summer I students will need to complete the New Student Orientation Online (details above).

  • Summer II: The Summer II Session is scheduled for July 2, 2020 from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Once registered for this session, you will receive a confirmation email and event reminders.

Please note that if you have a TSI status of "not taken" or "partially exempt" you will not be able to register for classes until we have TSI scores or proof of a full TSI exemption.
