New Student Orientation is a program that is required for all new, entering undergraduates at MSU Texas. Whether you are a first year student or transferring, getting started at MSU Texas is a big step.
Complete your spring 2025 New Student Orientation online! All incoming new students for spring 2025 can satisfy their NSO requirement by completing a series of online modules.
- Once you have successfully completed all required modules, the New Student Orientation staff will lift your Orientation Hold on your MSU student account beginning 14 November and send you a confirmation email of the requirement being satisfied.
- Processing and confirmation usually takes around 1-2 business days following completion of the required Online Orientation modules.
*The Orientation Hold may impact the ability to register for courses for students who have not completed their online orientation by December 5. Why? Beginning 14 November, all new students are eligible to register for spring 2025 classes, and Orientation Holds will be deactivated. Orientation Holds will be automatically activated on 5 December for any student who has not completed the online orientation modules. The Student Engagement Center will check for completed New Student Orientation modules daily (Monday through Friday, not including Winter Break) beginning 14 November until spring 2025 classes begin.
THIS STEP MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ADVISING AND REGISTERING FOR CLASSES!
Please note that if you have a TSI status of "not taken" or "partially exempt" you will not be able to register for classes until we have TSI scores or proof of a full TSI exemption on record. Therefore, students who are not exempt and have not attended another public Texas college, must schedule to take the TSI assessment in the required subject areas prior to registration. Additional information can be found at https://msutexas.edu/testing/
If you need to take the TSI, you can reserve a test date with the Student Engagement Center, 940-397-4500, or take it online. Some community colleges local to you may also offer TSI test options that can be mailed to MSU.
If you're not sure if you need to take the TSI or if you have other questions, contact your Admissions Counselor.
Academic Advisor contact information is listed on our Academic Advising at MSU page. Contact your Advisor to schedule an advising appointment. This is required before registering for classes!
Effective Fall 2015, the MSU Board of Regents authorized a mandatory, one-time $75.00 Student Orientation Fee for all new freshmen and transfer undergraduate students. This fee is added to the student's MSU account and is not a fee that must be paid in advance or before completing the orientation. The fee covers the orientation programming, staffing, technology and materials provided to the incoming student at either an on campus or online orientation.
