BSRS Admission Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently registered with the ARRT, NMTCB, or ARDMS, or be a second-year student enrolled in an accredited radiologic sciences program.
  • Candidates for the BSRS Program must apply to the university and to the BSRS Program.

Admission Process

  1. Have an overall post-secondary GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  2. Be registered by the ARRT, NMTCB, or ARDMS, or be a second-year student in an accredited program in the Radiologic Sciences.  
  3. Satisfy all TSI requirements. 
  4. Have reliable Internet access and a working email address. Apply using a desktop or laptop computer. The application portal may not function properly on a cell phone or Chromebook.
  5. Apply to the University AND to the BSRS Program Application.
  6. Complete the University orientations.
  7. View the Advanced Modalities details if a concurrent certificate in MRI, CT, or Mammography is desired.
  8. Candidates will be classified as pre-BSRS (RADP) students until their qualifications for acceptance into the BSRS Program are verified. Pre-BSRS students have limited access to RADS professional courses.
  9. Students who are not enrolled for a long semester (fall or spring) must reapply to the university

Course Credit Hours

The BSRS degree requires 120 total credit hours:

  • 42 credit hours — General academic core courses
  • 78 credit hours — Professional courses, including 42 credit hours awarded for professional certification (see below)

Professional Licensure/Certification Credits

Students are awarded 42 credit hours for holding a current, valid professional radiography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). The Radiologic Sciences Department verifies current certification from the declared agency as part of the BSRS Program Application process.

Course Format

  • All professional courses are offered as MSU online courses and must be taken through MSUTexas.
  • All BSRS students take the same 7 core professional courses and select 4 additional courses from a list of professional electives.
  • The statistics requirement may be fulfilled with a course taken at another institution or another MSUTexas department.
  • General education (non-professional) courses may be taken at MSU or another accredited institution and transferred in. Students should work with their advisor to confirm transferability into their degree plan.
  • Fall and Spring semesters run 15 weeks. RADS courses run across both summer sessions, lasting 10 weeks each.
