Two students playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Smash Bros Ultimate is a high paced, ultra-accessible fighting game from Nintendo. It features iconic characters from franchises like Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokémon, and more. This game is deceptively easy to pick up, hard to master, and a perennial fan favorite.

MSU has a varsity smash team, a junior varsity smash team, and a casual smash community that students can join.

Varsity receives scholarships, paid professional coaching, free personalized jersey, and paid entrance into competitive collegiate leagues with scholarship rewards for high placements.

Junior Varsity has access to paid professional coaching, free personalized jersey, and also enjoy paid entrance into competitive leagues. Students wishing to join either the varsity or junior varsity team must participate in tryouts at the start of each semester to earn their spot.

The casual smash community requires nothing to join and has frequent meet-ups to play singles, doubles, or even eight player free for all! If fun, chaos, and pizza are your vibe then this is the group for you.

The tryout format for this title will reflect its hybrid status in the Spring of 2024. The first day of tryouts will be an online double-elimination tournament in the standard competitive format where the applicant will compete against the other applicants. The second day of tryouts will be an offline in-person tournament hosted within the Bridwell Activity Center. The applicant will complete against other applicants in a round-robin gauntlet as well as the local and greater smash community within the Texoma PR region within a double-elimination bracket.

We strongly encourage students who do not have a LAN adaptor to participate within the Esports & Gaming Lounge to control for lag in the online lobby. If you have serial connectivity concerns, you may be disqualified from the bracket and alternative methods to demonstrate your online proficiency will be determined.

This will be a VARSITY supported team competing in the Open Premier division of the NACE Starleague Spring 2024 Split and other offline or collegiate battles as identified.
