An academic college or department may submit a course for Writing Intensive (WI) designation at any time. The course must meet the following criteria and be approved by the University Writing Council:
- Maintains a recommended 25 student cap,
- Requires 3 formal writing assignments comprising of at least 50% of the final course grade,
- Gives attention to the writing process,
- Provides instructor feedback on writing, and
- Uses common, but flexible rubric on at least one assignment.
Beginning fall 2021, the following courses are designated as Writing Intensive:
