Global Studies and Political Science majors and minors have the opportunity to participate in two courses which are now taught abroad during summer in our U.K. location. While in Britain, you develop skills in active policy-engagement, with location-based learning at the U.K. Parliament, in the financial-services district of Shoreditch, and at the University of Oxford.  Students meet and interview British, American, and European foreign policy-makers, as well as financial services experts currently working as economic advisors. You earn six credit hours for taking the following Study Abroad courses:

POLS 3533: European Politics

Students in this course develop a foundational understanding of modern European Politics. Focus areas include the purpose and institutions of the European Union, economic integration and trade, regional security and geopolitics, and the relationship between European states and the wider world. Students achieve a functional knowledge of the governance institutions, security arrangements, and recent political outcomes in Europe, while developing policy analysis skills as seen in an original research project.

POLS 4933: Special Topics: British Politics Since 1900

Students in this course acquire a working understanding of the core components of British Politics since 1900. Topics covered include the four nations one kingdom principle, the British Commonwealth, the multi-party system, constitutional and judicial arrangements, the executive and parliamentary institutions, welfare state policies, and foreign policy. Particular emphasis is placed upon the interaction with nearby European neighbors, NATO, and the recent Brexit crisis. Students will obtain knowledge about the contrasts and similarities between the British and US systems, documenting this through an online interview-styled journal project.
