Schedule of Events
» 3:30 p.m.
For those who want to attend the Graduate Walk, a procession will start at Ferguson Hall and finish at Spirit of the Mustangs Plaza. The location may change if weather is unfavorable. Graduating students are not required or obligated to attend the Graduate Walk.

» 4:30 p.m.
Graduating students must arrive at Ligon Coliseum no later than 4:30 p.m.

» 5:00 p.m.
Coliseum doors will open to the public.
Tickets are not required for the commencement ceremony.

» 6:00 p.m.
The commencement ceremony will begin.



Attendance

Attendance at commencement is required for December graduates. If a graduating student is unable to attend, they must contact the Registrar’s Office to request permission to graduate in absentia.

ADA Accommodations
Graduating students who need ADA accommodations need to contact the Registrar’s Office. ADA seating for guests will be available on the coliseum floor.

Regalia
The bookstore sells regalia in-store and on their website. The "MSU Master Set" includes the necessary items – a gown, mortar board, hood, and tassel.

Dress Code
Casual wear is not appropriate. Graduating students may not wear jewelry or flowers on their gown and may not carry a purse or camera. There will be no secure place to leave valuables during the commencement ceremony.

Diplomas
At commencement, graduating students will be given a diploma cover. Grades for the Fall 2024 semester will not be submitted until the week after commencement. If all degree requirements are completed and all financial and academic obligations are met, graduating students will receive their diplomas by mail approximately six to eight weeks after commencement. Students who do not complete their degree requirements will be notified by email.

Streaming
The commencement ceremony will be live-streamed. The link will be available closer to December 13.

Honors
Honors for graduate students differ from honors for undergraduate students. Designation of honors is based on the student's cumulative GPA at the time of graduation. Cumulative GPA at the time of graduation may not reflect grades from the student's final semester.
» 4.0 GPA: Summa Cum Laude (maroon and gold cords)
» 3.9 - 3.999 GPA: Magna Cum Laude (maroon cord)
» 3.8 - 3.899 GPA: Cum Laude (gold cord)
