Information Security at MSU

The mission of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), as required by state law, is to assure the security of the university's Information Technology resources and the existence of a safe computing environment in which the university community can teach and learn.

The CISO collaborates with campus leaders, Office of Audit Services, and legal units to support the university's mission.  The CISO’s activities include:

  • Incident response, investigation, and reporting
  • Information security policy and standards development
  • Supports management with security administration, implementation and management
  • Monitors and tests for policy compliance and assurance
  • Conducts information security risk assessment

 

What Are Cybersecurity Incidents?

  • Potential unauthorized disclosure or alteration of sensitive data
  • Loss or theft of devices or media containing sensitive data
  • University web page displaying inappropriate content
  • Distribution of malicious software on Midwestern State University computers

 

How to Report an Incident
To report a cybersecurity incident, send email to helpdesk@msutexas.edu or call 940-397-4278.
Include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Type of incident
  • Your name and contact information
  • Date and time of incident
  • IP address of each computer involved
  • Logs from each computer involved
