The Study Abroad Department sponsors four-week summer programs in both Granada, Spain, and in Tours, France, for which students earn six hours of credit.
The programs are ideal for students who have already taken the first year of foreign language because they can complete their entire second year in four weeks in Europe. The programs also cater to both complete beginners and to more advanced students. Students pursuing a BS degree at Midwestern can receive six hours of elective credits for elementary French or Spanish.
Granada and Tours are both historically and culturally rich midsized cities with plenty to offer students. Granada is in southern Spain with access to Seville, Cordoba, and the Mediterranean Sea. Tours is in the heart of the chateau country about one hour south of Paris on the high-speed TGV train.
Students study intensively during the week at the Enforex Language Institute in Granada or at the Institut de Touraine in Tours. Students are free on weekends. They live and dine with a family during their entire stay. The programs end with a two-day visit to either Madrid or to Paris.
Both 2016 programs will take place from May 26 to June 27, before the second summer session begins at MSU. Students arrive in their host city a few days before classes start in order to get over jet lag and to get familiar with their families and their surroundings.
The cost of each program (not including the Study Abroad scholarship) is $6,800. It includes round-trip airfare from Dallas to Madrid or to Paris, round-trip transfers from either capital to the host city by high-speed train (France) or coach (Spain), tuition and books, room and half board (breakfast and dinner) daily with the host family, two school-sponsored excursions, and the hotel in Madrid or Paris. These all-inclusive programs were designed so that students have minimal out-of-pocket expenses while in Europe.
All MSU students who qualify receive a scholarship from the Study Abroad Department. Students in the Honors Program also receive an additional scholarship that matches that from the Study Abroad Department.
