Scholarships and Opportunities

Students may apply at any time during the academic year up to the second week of April.  To apply for scholarships, go to MSU’s one-stop Scholarship Manager.

Current English and Humanities scholarships include:

English Scholarships

  • Barkley-Cahill Undergraduate Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors, with special focus on graduating seniors and/or financial need.
  • Bryan Lawrence Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors, with an emphasis on creative writing.
  • DeAnna Fergeson Lynch Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors.
  • Elby W. Threadgill Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors with an ELAR certification.
  • Elenor R. Payne & Verna Sellers Scholarship: Open to full-time English majors in their junior or senior year, with a special emphasis on academic merit and/or financial need.
  • Father Fitzpatrick Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors.
  • Mario & Angelika Ruggia Sigma Tau Delta Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors inducted into Sigma Tau Delta. Preference to those fluent in more than one language.
  • Sullivan-Barton English Scholarship: Open to full-time undergraduate English majors with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • Willoughby-Zipperman Undergraduate Award for Literary Scholarship: Open to all undergraduate English majors and/or minors, though graduating seniors will be given special consideration. Awarded for the best literary analysis paper of the year as determined by scholarship committee.
  • Perkins/Prothro Scholarships: English majors with good academic records should also consider applying for the Prothro-Yeager College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Humanities Scholarships

  • Farid & Margaret Ann Khoury Humanities Scholarship: This merit-based scholarship is open to all Humanities minors.
  • Jeff H. Campbell Humanities Scholarship: This merit-based scholarship is open to all Humanities majors.

English, Humanities, and World Languages Scholarship

  • The Hoggard Scholarship Endowment provides an enduring legacy of the excellence exemplified by those whom it honors. Scholarships are awarded to junior and senior level students earning degrees in English, Humanities and World Languages. The impact of the scholarship will be significant for these students, lessening the impact of tuition costs as they prepare to graduate and enter the workforce.
