What is the First Year Probation Program?
In an effort to provide early intervention for all students placed on probation, the First Year Probation Program was redesigned in Summer of 2025. Now, all students who go on probation, no matter how many hours they have earned, will be required to follow the Probation Program.
A probation hold is placed in Banner Self-Service for each of these students and they are sent a letter listing their requirements for the next semester. They are required to enroll for MWSU 1003 - Skills for Success, and repeat two classes in which grades of D or F were earned. Students who need to be full-time may choose additional classes, but may not register for more than 15 semester hours. All of these students must meet with their advisors to clear these holds.
Continued Academic Probation – A student on Academic Probation who fails to raise the cumulative GPA to the level on the table of standards above but who earns a semester average of 2.0 or above.
Academic Suspension
A student who fails to raise the MSU cumulative GPA to the required level on the table of standards above and who fails to earn a 2.0 semester average. See catalog or website for First Suspension, Second Suspension, or Third Suspension and readmission policies. A student placed on Third Suspension will be assessed a permanent dismissal. See the MSU Texas catalog for readmission policies.
