The Humanities Program at Midwestern State University annually grants two scholarships to students who have excelled in their pursuit of either a major or minor in Humanities. A variety of other opportunities exist on campus for Humanities students to be recognized on campus for their scholarly and creative excellence.
Campbell Humanities Scholarship awards one Humanities major each year with a $500 cash prize to honor his/her achievements as an active student in the humanities. Khoury Scholarship awards one Humanities minor (with a major in a scientific field, preferably related to medicine) each year with a cash prize up to $1,000 to honor his/her achievements as an active student in the humanities. Vinson Award, hosted by the English Program, grants a $1,000 cash prize for creative writing. To compete for the Vinson Award, current full-time students in good standing can submit their creative writing in either of three categories: poetry, prose fiction, or prose non-fiction. Student Award for Library Research provides three awards for the top research paper written during academic year. Any MSU student in any field is eligible to apply. The top prize is a $300 gift card; the two runner-up prizes are $125 gift cards. More information about the awards and how to apply can be found on the Moffett Library website.
Voices: Literature and Arts Magazine is a regional arts and literary journal produced and published annually by students and faculty at Midwestern State University. Voices publishes ambitious and imaginative fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and art from high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas. The editors are looking for original creative pieces that paint with imaginative colors, speak with compelling voices, and render characters with dimension and complexity.
