The MSU Spanish Club is a culturally diverse organization open to any student interested in learning about the Spanish-speaking cultures of the world. We encourage members to become friends and colleagues as they explore aspects of culture and language while having fun and engaging in service. Our university and community service efforts through the years have benefited people in our local community and those around the globe. Four officers and a Student Government Senator are chosen each academic year. The Club’s advisor is Dr. Philip Allen.
Spanish Club offers numerous social, service and entertainment opportunities throughout each academic year. These include Tertulia, an informal conversation group for those wishing to develop their Spanish-language skills, Noche Latina, a showcase of Latin American dances, music and food, Spanish-language and Hispanic culture film presentations, and participation in the community’s Calle Ocho festival (October) and Las Posadas (December). Each spring we host an End-of-Year Celebration and Awards Dinner to recognize the work of our members and honor our graduating seniors. Club members often gather informally at local venues for Latin dancing.

Midwestern State University is also the home of the Delta Beta Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi , a national collegiate Hispanic society.
The purpose of Sigma Delta Pi is to recognize and reward outstanding students of Spanish within an exclusive society devoted to both maintaining academic excellence in Hispanic studies and supporting the Hispanic community and its flourishing culture. Over the next year we plan to host activities and events to increase our use of and knowledge of the Spanish language and culture.
Requirements:
- All candidates for membership must complete at least 18 hours of Spanish, or the equivalent thereof, including at least 3 advanced hours in literature or civilization.
- Must have at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all Spanish courses.
- Must rank in the upper 35% of their class.
- Finally, each candidate must demonstrate a genuine interest in the Hispanic community and its culture and possess a sound moral character.
