Undergraduate Research Opportunities and Summer Workshop (UGROW) is MSU’s faculty-led, student-executed intensive summer research program. As in years past, UGROW will provide a venue in which faculty mentor full-time engagement from one or possibly two students, facilitating student exposure to research techniques, as well as opportunities for presentation and interaction.
The final piece to the UGROW puzzle falls into place on June 30th 2:00 PM in Bolin 127 with the 17th Annual UGROW Research Symposium. Each research group will present a 20 minutes slide-show on their work.

POTG I was a success - the projects each are well underway. June 21 at 2PM is our second informal poster session in the 1st floor hallway of Bolin Science Building. Once again, student researchers should acquire a single sheet of paper that is 36" x 24" or larger, and use the space to explain their project and initial progress.
We are in the middle in the program, so poster information should skew towards an process and progress, with a view towards conclusion. We're now familiar with your project and its goals, but keep providing simple but effective information that allows non-experts to understand your research.
Please bring your poster to Bolin Hall by 1:50 PM and tape it to the wall. The assembled mentors and researchers will circulate to each poster. Each project will have 10 to 15 minutes to present (projects with more than one student should divide the labor).
Paper for POTG is available through the office of undergrad research in the Clark Student Center on Friday, 6/17 from 8:30 AM -12 PM or 1-4:30 PM.
June 14 at 2PM is a time for us to gather and witness each other's progress with an informal poster session in the 1st floor hallway of Bolin Science Building. Student researchers should acquire a single sheet of paper that is 36" x 24" or larger, and use the space to explain their project and initial progress. These need not be polished efforts. They may incorporate handwritten text, hand-drawn diagrams and charts, or printed materials affixed to the paper. In addition to the information on the poster, feel free to include visual aids relevant to the project (e.g. physical samples, fabricated pieces, books).
We are early in the program, so poster information should skew towards background, research design, and initial methods. Also recognize that most will be unfamiliar with your project and its goals, so please provide simple but effective information that allows non-experts to understand your research.

At the 17th MSU Texas Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Forum, 101 undergraduate students made either oral or poster presentations Nov. 18. Of them, 22 student presentations received recognition.

UGROW affords opportunities for collaborative research between undergraduates and faculty in an interdisciplinary research environment.
Undergraduate research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by one or more undergraduate students, with faculty guidance, which attempts to make an intellectual, creative, or applied contribution to one or more disciplines. Adopted in April 2013.
UGROW was conceived by faculty in the College of Science and Mathematics in 2004 as an initiative to create an interdisciplinary environment to train and nurture young scientists. The first UGROW was in 2005 and since then, it has offered research opportunities to over 200 undergraduates. During Summer Session I UGROW students experience the authenticity of researching projects of their choice in a highly interdisciplinary environment. At the end of the program, students present their findings at the UGROW Symposium, and the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum in the Fall term. UGROW students may also present their research at an off-campus professional meeting/conference if they choose to do so.
UGROW promotes conditions in which students and faculty, who would like to cross disciplinary boundaries, can advance knowledge and at the same time enrich their learning/research/scholarship endeavors. UGROW is open to all disciplines at MSUTexas.
