Bridge Borders & Embrace Global Perspectives

Today's world is more interconnected than ever, and developing an intercultural awareness is key to thriving - both now and in the future. You will expand your horizons and develop a global perspective here at MSU Texas, and that is true whether you are on our campus in Wichita Falls or traveling halfway around the world with one of our many study abroad programs.

International Students Thrive at MSU Texas

Starting college is a big adjustment, and starting college in a new country is even more so. We help make the transition easier with academic advising, the Intensive English Language Institute (for NATO pilots and pilots at Sheppard Air Force Base), and our Global Ambassadors Program run by Mustangs student leaders who help enhance the international student experience.

Attending Midwestern State University as an international student has been one of the most rewarding choices of my life. From the moment I arrived, I was embraced by a warm and friendly community, both on and off campus. The faculty and staff provided exceptional support, ensuring I had the resources and guidance needed to thrive academically. The cultural opportunities at MSU truly stood out to me, from international festivals to campus events that celebrated diversity. These experiences not only allowed me to share my heritage but also gave me the chance to learn about others, making me feel truly at home. Being part of such an inclusive environment has fostered incredible personal and professional growth. I've gained confidence, developed leadership skills, and built lasting friendships that I will treasure forever. MSU has been a place where I've unlocked my potential and paved the way for a future I'm genuinely excited about.

Sarah Graves says she received a more authentic, everyday view of the culture through the university's language-based program in Spain her senior year. She also studied in London her junior year.

Behind the Camera

Many of the photos you see on this page were taken by Casee Harl, MSU Texas graduate and two-time Study Abroad student, who captured many sights that students experience while studying in England and Spain.

Speaking the Language

Nursing graduate Abigail Hurst expanded upon her French minor with a study abroad experience in France in 2021. Then the next summer she studied community health in England.

Stay Close and Go Far

Windthorst, Texas, native Brooke Scheiber stayed close to home for college, but went far in her studies ... all the way to Grenada to study health and wellness. It was more than classrooms and lectures for Brooke - it was an insight into the world.

Global Education FAQs

Why should I study abroad?

Studying abroad enriches your life from all angles: personal, academic, and professional. Not only will you have fun and transformational experiences but you will also earn academic credits toward your degree through MSU Texas and will develop skills—such as problem-solving and flexibility—that build your resume and help you stand out to employers.

There is data to back up the value of studying abroad, too. In fact, research shows that students who study abroad have higher GPAs, graduation rates, and starting salaries in their first jobs.

Can I afford to study abroad?

The short answer is yes! When you study abroad, you still pay MSU tuition and fees, which are the same no matter where in the world you are studying. Plus, we offer generous scholarships to help combat the additional travel costs students incur when studying abroad.

Every student with a 2.5 GPA or higher is eligible to receive a scholarship, with additional awards being offered by certain academic colleges and departments as well as by the Honors Program.

Studying abroad is a valuable part of a fulfilling college experience, and we are here to help make it possible.

What support services are available for international students?

Our holistic support system helps to ease the transition to all aspects of college life. You will be able to get help creating your academic plan through the Academic Advising, access mental health resources at the MSU Counseling Center or Timely Care, brainstorm potential career paths at the Career Management Center, and so much more.

What is the international student experience like?

We know Mustangs are stronger together, so we have a ton of initiatives in place to unite students of all cultures and backgrounds. The Student Engagement Center supports many different identity groups on campus, so you will have opportunities to find your people and build relationships with students from all different backgrounds.

Plus, our Global Ambassadors Program provides an avenue for students from around the world to step into leadership roles on campus, share their perspectives, and to help enhance the international experience both on and off campus.
