Get a Leg Up with Grants

Grants are a type of financial aid that, unlike student loans, do not need to be repaid, making them an excellent option for students like you. With grants, you can focus on your studies and preparing for your future career without the fears of hefty debt.

Grants FAQs

What are the renewal requirements for maintaining grant eligibility form year to year?

Grant renewal requirements vary by grant, but generally speaking, you must maintain Satisfactory Academic Process (SAP).

How and when will I be notified about my grant award?

Our Financial Aid office will notify you via your MSU Texas assigned student email account once the award package is ready. Generally, we begin awarding in March of every year.

How does accepting a grant affect my other financial aid options, such as scholarships or loans?

Grants count toward your cost of attendance. Cost of attendance determines the maximum amount of aid that you can accept from grants and loans. The more grant money you receive, the less money you will need to borrow.

Scholarships can bring your financial aid package above the cost attendance but are applied to your cost of attendance prior to adding grants or determining the amount you can borrow in student loans.
