Resident Assistants (RAs) in each building will reach out to their residents to sign up for a checkout time. Time slots will be available Monday, May 1, through Friday, May 12, at noon. All students will complete the following steps:

  1. Sign up for a ccheckout time with their assigned Resident Assistant (RA).
  2. Ccomplete the move-out and cleaning process.
  3. Turn in room keys to their RA.
  4. Fill out an envelope with their information and acknowledgment that staff will assess cleaning and damages at a later time.

Students who do not properly check out of University Housing are subject to improper checkout charges of at least $50.00.

Cleaning Guidelines

Limited clearning supplies are available in all residential desk areas (when open) and at the Legacy Commons (open 24-hours a day).

General items available for checkout include general-purpose cleaner, paper towels, trash bags, vacuum cleaners, swiffers, brooms, and dollies. Due to high demand, you may experience longer wait times for items.

Dumpsters are located adjacent to the residential buildings. All students are required to take their trash to these designated locations. Improper trash disposal could lead to fines assessed to the student’s account.

Ways to Reduce Checkout Charges:

Killingsworth and Legacy Hall Cleaning Guidelines

McCullough-Trigg Hall Cleaning Guidelines

Sunwatcher Village and Sundance Court Cleaning Guidelines

Maintenance Issues:

If you have difficulty with any maintenance issues, complete a maintenance request online.

For emergencies, contact the Legacy Commons desk at 940-397-6600, 24 hours a day.

Room Damage Charges

Residents are responsible for any costs the University incurs in returning a living space to its original condition. In the event of damage, missing furniture, or excessive trash, Residence Life & Housing incurs specific costs to ready rooms for the next occupant. Our goal in sharing this information is to encourage all residents to take care of their rooms and to vacate rooms in good condition to avoid damage charges.

Residence Life & Housing staff assess damages to student rooms using the ICE (Intentional, Careless, or Excessive) principle. Damages identified using the ICE principle are intentional damage or vandalism, damage caused by careless use, or excessive wear and tear.

Please keep in mind that move-out room inspections look for damages that are beyond normal wear and tear. Housing fees incorporate the cost of repair and upkeep for normal wear and tear from living in the space. Damage billing charges apply only to damages deemed intentional, careless, or excessive. A partial listing of damage charges can be found in the 2022-2023 Residence Life & Housing Handbook.
