Do you plan to begin a career in teaching? If you have been accepted into the Education undergraduate or graduate program as determined by MSU's College of Education (Post Baccalaureate students, such as Certificate programs, Teacher Certification and 2 nd Baccalaureate, are not eligible) AND your intention is to serve as a full-time teacher in the high-need fields as indicated in the Teacher Shortage Area Nationwide Listing in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students, you MAY be eligible to receive the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant. Since the definition of 'high need field' may vary from year-to-year between states AND schools, students are encouraged to investigate these high need fields with the state and/or school in which the student plans to teach. MSU's College of Education may be able to assist you with further guidance regarding these requirements.This grant provides up to $4,000 per year and, in exchange:
- You must agree to serve as a full-time teacher in a high-need field that serves low-income students;
- You must agree to teach for at least four (4) academic years within eight (8) calendar years of completing the program of study for which you received the TEACH Grant;
- If you fail to complete this service obligation, you will be required to repay all amounts of the TEACH Grant that you receive as a Federal DIRECT UNSUBSIDIZED Stafford Loan and you must repay this loan to the U.S. Department of Education; the DIRECT UNSUBSIDIZED Loan is NOT the same loan program as the FFELP Stafford Loan and, therefore, the loans may NOT be combined together.
THE TEACH GRANT IS A SERIOUS OBLIGATION! Please take a few minutes to read more about the TEACH Grant before you commit to this service obligation:
