At Midwestern State University, a student who has filed for graduation and has received a loan(s) during his/her college career is required to complete loan ‘Exit Counseling’; additionally, loan Exit Counseling is required for MSU students who drop to less-than-half-time, officially withdraw from the university or leave the university due to transfer, drop-out, etc.... This Exit Counseling offers invaluable information regarding the terms and conditions surrounding the repayment of his/her student loan(s) upon departure from the university.
Follow these easy steps to complete your ON-LINE Exit Counseling:
- Go to studentaid.gov and click on 'Log In'; you will use your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) to Login. NOTE: If you have issues creating or accessing your account at studentloans.gov, you may call 1-800-433-3243 for assistance.
- Now click on 'Loan Repayment' and then click on 'Loan Exit Counseling'-- read all introductory and basic information. Now select state/school information and click 'Notify this School' (NOTE: you may need to enter your state/school information at least twice before being allowed to continue). Be sure to click 'Continue' once you have selected your state/school.
- Now you will complete a series of short quizzes before continuing through the session. Please note that you must complete the entire session once you begin -- if you exit the counseling before completing the session and return later, you must start over from the beginning. The entire session takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- Upon completion of your Exit Counseling, the MSU Financial Aid Office will retrieve the results of your Exit Counseling and update our records to reflect that you have completed the Exit Counseling requirements. Please allow 2-3 business days for the MSU Financial Aid Office to receive notification from the U.S. Department of Education.
- Also know that you can view all Federal loans you have received during your college career.
- GRADUATING STUDENTS: To ensure you have the most CURRENT information regarding your loan amounts and repayment options, we encourage you to complete your Exit Counseling no more than 3-6 months prior to your actual graduation date.
- FAILURE TO COMPLETE EXIT COUNSELING WILL RESULT IN A "HOLD" BEING PLACED ON YOUR GRADES AND RECORDS.
