Fall Closing Information

All residents returning to housing for the Spring will be assigned to their same rooms unless approved to change rooms (See the "I want to change my room for Spring" information in the next section). Students who are returning to their same room from Fall to Spring will need to checkout with their Resident Assistant (RA) by December 9 at noon and need to have their room cleaned and leave by Friday, December 13 at noon. Students returning to their same rooms can leave their belongings in their space during the break but will need to clean and complete the checkout list provided by their RAs. Our maintenance team will be performing pest control and annual maintenance during the break.

• Sign up for a checkout time with your RA by December 9 at noon.
• Clean your room and completed all steps on the apartment or residence hall closing checklist:
  • Remove all belongings from the floor for pest control
  • Make sure your room has been vacuumed, mopped, and dusted
  • Microfridge/appliances must be Warm & Dry - no wet towels on the floor or in the fridge
  • Everything must be unplugged
  • Make sure all windows are closed and locked with blinds down (bottom floor blinds down and closed; top floor blinds down and open)
  • No trash remains in the room and all perishable items are removed
  • Take home items you haven't been using
  • Set the thermostat to 72 on Auto
  • Turn off lights and lock bedroom doors
  • Double check ALL windows and doors are locked and keep your keys in a safe place until you return
• Meet your RA at your room during your designated checkout time
• Complete the checkout with your Resident Assistant (RA)

Students who desire to change rooms from Fall to Spring will need to complete the Spring Room Change Request form on Mustangs Link. Changes are not guaranteed and will be done on a first come-first serve base. Students who are approved will know their new room assignments by December 20, 2024.

  • Please note that apartment spaces are extremely limited and makeup approximately 35% of the total housing offered on campus. Two-bedroom units make up less than 10%. We are unable to accommodate all requests for apartment-style housing. The longer you've lived on campus, the more likely you are to secure a space in an apartment.
• You will be notified on Mustangs Link if your request is approved or denied. We receive a large quantity of room change requests during the fall-to-spring transition and will process requests on a first come-first serve bases, as spaces are available. We appreciate your patience. 

Students who are changing rooms from Fall to Spring will need to vacate their Fall room prior to their planned departure from campus. Students must be moved out of their rooms by noon on Friday, December 13.

• Sign up for a move-out time with your Resident Assistant (RA) by December 5 at noon.
• Ensure you’ve removed all personal items from your room, cleaned your room, and completed all steps on the apartment or residence hall closing checklist
• Meet your RA at your room during your designated checkout time
• Complete the move-out list with your RA
• Lock your room and give keys to your RA

University housing reopens on January 12 at 9:00 am. Students moving into their new spaces between 9:00 am - 9:00 pm, January 12 - 17. If you are moving in after January 17, please contact your Hall Director to inform them of your late arrival. 

• Check-in at the Legacy Commons Desk between 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
• Bring a photo ID (MSU Texas ID, Driver's License, state-issued ID, etc.)
• Complete a short questionnaire with the H.O.S.T. staff
• Receive your keys and begin moving into your new home
  • Limited dollies and furniture cars will be available for check out at the commons desk and hall desks.

If you are NOT returning for the Spring 2025 semester, you must cancel your housing agreement on the Housing Portal. Students who are not approved for release from the housing agreement (e.g. graduation, student teaching, clinical rotations, etc.) will be assessed a $500 cancellation penalty as outlined in the Housing Reservation Commitment & Agreement.

• Students who are not returning to MSU Texas as a student for the Spring 2025 semester must cancel prior to December 15, 2024, to avoid a $500 cancellation penalty.
• Students seeking off-campus accommodations should verify release from their housing agreement prior to signing a lease in order to avoid paying for on-campus and off-campus housing charges

Students who are not returning for the spring semester will need to vacate their room prior to their planned departure from campus. Unless graduating, students must be moved out of their rooms by noon on Friday, December 13. Graduates may request break housing through Sunday, December 15 at 5:00 pm at no additional charge
