Are You Prepared to Begin Applying for Internships or Jobs?

Do you have a resume, cover letter, and reference page? Job search questions? Do you have an interview? Then, check out our From Campus to Career: Mustangs Survival Guide! We created this guide to assist Mustangs in navigating various aspects of career preparation.

There are professional document samples, tips, checklists, and other helpful information regarding resumes, cover (business) letters, job searching, networking, interviewing, and graduate/professional school.

Have Your Professional Documents Reviewed By Our Team

Your professional documents are most likely an employer’s first impression of you. It is important to ensure they are an articulate, accurate, and a thoughtful reflection of you. The CMC is here to review your documents in a variety of ways. You can upload your documents in the MustangsHIRE.org powered by Handshake system or email them to us.

Establishing a connection with the Career Management Center was one of the most vital decisions I made early on, and it greatly influenced my success in securing a job after graduation. The personalized approach to guiding me through the complexities of the career planning process is invaluable. From resume refinement to interview preparation, their support was incredible. I highly recommend their services to all students seeking to maximize their career potential post-graduation.

Is Your Resume ATS Ready?

Many employers use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to collect and sort through applications and resumes. ATS will scan application packets for items such as: the use of keywords relating to a job posting, standard headings, job titles, and format consistency.

The CMC offers the following Artificial Intelligence (AI) programs to best assist you with getting your resume (and application packet) in front of the actual hiring manager.

  • Quinncia uses AI to provide feedback on your resume as well as conduct AI led and reviewed mock interviews.

  • Hiration (coming soon) uses AI to assist with building resumes and cover letters, conduct AI led and reviewed mock interviews, and a LinkedIn profile reviewer.

You Landed an Interview. Now What?

The interview is your chance to shine! It provides you the opportunity to showcase yourself and put you at the top of the candidate list. Research the employer thoroughly, practice common interview questions, and dress for success. We are also here to help.

Explore the Career Closet

The Career Closet is available to students and alumni that need to borrow professional attire to wear to an interview or to attend a career fair. Wearing professional attire has been shown to enhance a candidate's first impression as well as provide a boost to their confidence.

Networking at MSU Texas

The CMC offers many opportunities for you to visit with employers. We host information tables, professional development workshops, and career fairs throughout the year. Each of these events provides you the chance to gain valuable industry knowledge, develop networking skills and contacts, and introduce you to available career opportunities.

Have you searched yourself online? We recommend doing so! Approximately 70% of employers use social media to screen potential employees during the hiring process. It is important to conduct an online self-audit, clean up your online presence, and keep it professional from that point forward.
