Title
Assistant Director, Clark Student Center
Description

Responsible for the coordination and day-to-day operation of services in the Clark Student Center (CSC). Works closely with the CSC Maintenance Technician who oversees daily custodial and maintenance operations for student center facilities. Directs the Mustangs Pantry student emergency aid program. Supervises, schedules, and trains student employees who staff the Information Desk, Recreation Room, Setup Crew, and fulfill various other CSC roles. Manages the CSC website and digital display screens. Manages room reservation and event requests for student center facilities and public outdoor campus areas using Astra Schedule software. Communicates with university personnel, student organizations, and external (non-campus) customers concerning use of student center facilities and policies/procedures related to reservations. Trains and supports personnel in campus departments on the use of Astra Schedule software for receiving and processing room requests for events occurring in non-CSC managed facilities. Works closely with Information Technology for the administration of the MSU campus card program using CS Gold software, which includes day-to-day printing and issuing campus ID cards, programming door access schedules for campus buildings, setting individual and group door access permissions based on requests from campus departments, managing student and employee meal plans, and running related reports. Works with appropriate university personnel in Facilities Services, Information Technology, University Police, Residence Life and Housing, Dinning Services, etc. to troubleshoot problems with the card system when issues arise. Reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students.

Examples

Receives requests for and schedules room reservations in the Clark Student Center, Bridwell, Activities Center, Sikes Lake Center, and public outdoor area on campus using Astra Schedule software. Corresponds with campus departments, student organizations, faculty, staff, students, and external (non-campus users) throughout the room request and confirmation process. Assists student center customers in defining their facility event needs. Provides daily event and setup reports to the CSC Maintenance Technician and Setup Crew. Communicates building maintenance and custodial needs in student center facilities to the CSC Maintenance Technician. Hires, trains, and supervises student assistants at the CSC Information Desk, Recreation Room, Mustangs Pantry, and Setup Crew. Monitors the CSC annual operating and student assistant budget and building equipment inventory. Produces weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Oversees tasks related to issuing cards, maintaining user profiles and permissions, and digital recordkeeping for the campus card system. Maintains door schedules for campus buildings with electronic card access. Orders supplies for the production of campus ID cards . Manages the campus facility reservation software for event room reservation (Astra Schedule) and campus card system (CS Gold), including technical services in partnership with Information Technology. Delivers presentations to current and prospective students, employees, and parents or guests related to CSC services, programs, and the campus card system. Coordinates and/or assists with the planning and implementation of occasional student events hosted by the CSC. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Condition

Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over thirty pounds. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to move about the student center facilities. Strength and stamina to perform a variety of manual tasks associated with duties.

Experience

Experience in facility operations and management, event planning, personnel training and supervision, use of computer software and databases, and the delivery of exceptional customer service. Previous experience in campus card management, and use of the software platforms Astra Schedule and CS Gold, is preferred. 

Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of computers for specialized software applications, commonly used office, internet, and cloud-based software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook). Knowledge of common audio-visual systems for events and presentations, and institutional information and database systems (e.g. Banner, Time Clock Plus, etc.), is preferred

Education

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to manage people and resources, work independently on difficult and complex assignments, and complete work in a timely and efficient manner in a busy atmosphere. Must possess working knowledge of business English including spelling and punctuation, strong attention to detail, and ability to proficiently operate a desktop and laptop computer.
