Title
Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Community Based Educator
Description

Promotes and implements the activities of the Area Health Education Center.

Examples

Initiates and maintains relationships with community preceptors.  Develops working relationships with health career education program training coordinators in order to establish rural training sites in the area.  Develops materials for program promotion to students and practitioners.  Presents preceptorship opportunities to rural primary care practitioners and encourage participation.  Provides orientation to students involved in rotation, including assisting with support services for students  Conducts an inventory of the area facilities' (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.} current practices regarding provision of continuing education.  Promotes current continuing education programs for various health professionals in the area.  Works with community partners to bring reasonably priced continuing education programs to the area.  Promotes regional coordination of continuing education program delivery and continuing education events.  Attends meetings on behalf of the AHEC of the Plains as requested by the AHEC Project Director.  Responsible for accurate and timely reporting.  Other duties as assigned.

Physical Condition
Experience

Minimum of 2 years full time work experience preferred in a health care, academic and/or community relations field. Experience in computer usage and electronic communications.

Knowledge

Ability to creatively solve problems and exhibit an attitude of teamwork. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to develop and maintain required professional relationships.  Possess excellent organizational skills. 

Education

Bachelor's degree in health care, health promotion, health education or related field.

Additional Requirements

Requires the ability to work well with diverse populations and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be able to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders and deal effectively with ambiguous situations. Must hold a valid driver's license. Possess a high degree of initiative and professionalism. *Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check. *Grant funded position.
