What is Orientation and why do I have to participate?  Orientation is the time when entering undergraduates visit Midwestern State University and learn all about programs, services and opportunities available. Students meet with their faculty advisor and register for their upcoming classes and enjoy interacting with fellow peers and student leaders. After attending orientation, students are well-prepared to enter college life and coursework at Midwestern State University. Parents and family are welcome to attend orientation events.

ORIENTATION/ADVISEMENT: Orientation is required of all beginning freshmen and transfer students (not previously enrolled at MSU). Students who have not received notification of acceptance by August 7, should contact MSU Admissions at (940) 397-4334 or (800) 842-1922.

Students should plan to complete early orientation or make arrangements to attend the entire day of regular orientation in order to complete the advising and registration process. Note: A small number of MSU departments and organizations mandate attendance at their own, specific “orientation” programs in addition to  New Student Orientation. These isolated “orientation” programs do not substitute for  New Student Orientation.

IMPORTANT: If you have a TSI status of "not taken" or "partially exempt" you will not be allowed register for classes until we have TSI test scores or proof of a full TSI exemption. Therefore, students who are not exempt and have not attended another Texas public college, must schedule to take the TSI Assessment in the required subject areas prior to registration.  Additional information can be found at mwsu.edu/registrar/success/index.  TSI questions? Call the TSI Coordinator in the MSU Registrar's Office at 940-397-4320.

Once you have been accepted for admission,  you must RSVP for your orientation session. You will see an advisor and register during your orientation day!

Additionally, students will not be allowed to register if they have not met the meningitis immunization record requirements.

Verification of Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination

The Texas legislature requires all students under the age of 22 who are entering an institution of higher education in Texas to either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet certain criteria to decline the vaccination prior the first day of classes.

New students must be immunized within the past five years and at least 10 days before the first day of classes.

Midwestern State University has contracted with Magnus Health to collect, review and securely store all student records pertaining to the meningitis vaccine. Do not send your shot records to the University.
