2020-2021 MSU Texas Cheer Tryouts Information

Tryout Information:

Due to COVID-19, we will be having virtual tryouts for this upcoming season! For registration or to sign up for the latest information and updates, please use our registration form

We look for the following skills:

  • Standing back tuck
  • Jumps to standing back tuck
  • Standing back handspring
  • Jumps to standing back handspring tuck
  • Standing two back handsprings back tuck (minimum), layout, full (preferred)
  • Jumps to standing back handspring back tuck (minimum), layout, full (preferred)
  • If you do not have all of the skills above, please try out anyway. We look for potential as well!

Virtual Tryouts will include the following:

  1. Interview
  2. Jumps
  3. Fight Song: Use the following link for access to learning the MSU Fight Song motions
  4. Standing Tumbling
  5. Running Tumbling
  6. Stunts

Important Tryout Dates:

Wednesday, May 20 at 7 pm
Virtual Tryout Information Session
This is a great opportunity to make sure you fully understand what you must submit for virtual tryouts and ask any specific questions to the coaching staff. A follow-up email to all registered participants will be sent for instructions on the virtual meeting.

Friday, May 29 at 7 pm
2020-2021 Tryout Fee & Materials Due
Information will be sent via email to all registered participants on how to submit the required materials.

Saturday, May 30 at 4 pm
2020-2021 Tryout Results posted on Social Media

All scoring and selection will take place during the day with outside hired judges reviewing all materials. Team selection and captain selection will be announced no later than 4 pm on all social media sites: Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

Saturday, May 30 at 5 pm
2020-2021 Team Virtual Orientation 
Individuals selected to be a part of the team will be invited to attend the mandatory team virtual orientation after results are announced. They will have an opportunity to meet each other and receive updated information about 2020-2021 cheer responsibilities, summer camps, summer practice, team commitment fee, practice gear, and more! A follow-up email to all registered participants will be sent for instructions on the virtual meeting.

Summer Schedule:

Below you will find the current summer schedule for the team. Due to COVID-19, we ask all participants to be flexible. Changes to the schedule are possible based on new information and guidelines given by Midwestern State University:

  • Home Camp: June 8, 2020 – June 13, 2020
  • Practice 1: June 25, 2020 – June 28, 2020
  • Practice 2 /Away Camp: July 6, 2020 – July 12, 2020
  • Practice 3: July 30, 2020 – August 2, 2020
