Mandatory MSU Health Insurance

Medical insurance is required for all international students at Midwestern State University. Enrollment in the mandatory MSU Health Insurance Plan is automatic at the time of registration, and the cost of the policy will appear on your tuition and fee bill as Student Health Insurance. The fall insurance premium appears on the fall semester bill; the premiums for spring and summer coverage are combined on the spring semester bill.

Health coverage is provided through Academic Health Plans (AHP). In addition to health insurance, the international student policy covers medical evacuation and repatriation of remains in case of death. More information about student insurance can be found the Academic Health Plans website.

Health insurance purchased from a private company may be accepted in lieu of the mandatory MSU student policy. The International Services office will evaluate previously existing policies on a case-by-case basis.

If you are interested in applying for a health insurance waiver please email Tiffany Kosse ( in the Vinson Health Center, for eligibility requirements.

Please note: if you are granted a waiver in the fall semester, the waiver is valid for the fall semester only. You will need to re-apply for the waiver for the spring semester.
