Order of Content

Since this course is highly interactive between students with much of the learning occurring in the discussion boards, students are required to complete the course content by the dates listed in the course schedule.

If extenuating circumstances occur that may cause a delay in completing an assignment or quiz by the deadline the student should contact the professor before the assignment is due (see the section on late work above); such cases will be dealt with on an individual basis.

HIPAA requirement:

Do not place ANY patient name on your assignments. Any proper name that appears on an assignment, other than yours will be considered a HIPAA violation and the assignment grade may be dropped to as low as a zero, depending on the severity of the violation.

Module Quizzes -30%

When a student has reviewed a module and is ready for the quiz, he or she will log on to D2L and receive a customized two (2) hour timed quiz that requires independent and critical thinking and application of the topics in that module to real-life situations. It is important to know the module content before attempting the module quizzes because they are timed.

When answering essay questions on the quizzes, you must answer in a manner that demonstrates your understanding of the question – one or two sentence answers are not going to be enough; 4 – 6 sentences (or in some cases, more) will be required to fully answer each question. Grammar, spelling, and sentence structure will be graded in addition to the content of the answers (it is suggested that students type their answers in a word document, perform grammar- and spell-check, and then copy and paste into their test answer boxes).

Quiz questions will be from information learned in the modules. Be sure to read the chapters and practice applying and using the information learned. Review the important key items and the objectives and practice answering the questions at the end of the chapters before attempting a quiz.

Quiz due dates

Quizzes not completed by the due dates, will receive a zero (0). Under no circumstances will an extension be made to complete quizzes not completed by the close date. Students should contact the professor in extenuating circumstances before the close date of the quizzes; such cases will be dealt with on an individual basis (see the section on late work). All quizzes must be completed before taking the Final Exam. See the course schedule for the due dates for the quizzes.

Technical problems

If technical issues occur (cannot see an image, cannot see your grade, etc.) sometimes the easiest solution is to see if the issue can be corrected by simply changing browsers. Fewer occurrences have been noted by using Firefox as a browser for D2L.

If students have technical difficulties during a quiz, they should use the Help link at the top toolbar in D2L, contact the MSU Information Systems Support Staff (http://www.mwsu.edu/it/), and send an email to the course professor explaining what happened. Screen shots and/or taking a picture of your screen may help in diagnosing the problem.

Scores

Quizzes will be graded in batches to maintain consistency in grading. If you do not see your score in the gradebook after a week please send a courtesy email to the professor to be sure your quiz has been received.

If a student finds a faulty quiz test item or believes that a quiz question has been scored incorrectly, he or she should send an email to the course professor that includes the following:

  1. Module Quiz Number (I -VI)
  2. Answer the Student Thinks Should Be Correct
  3. Rationale Supporting Why the Student's Answer is Correct
  4. Page numbers must be included when referencing the textbook in a rationale

After reviewing the case, if the course professor thinks a revision is justified, the student's quiz score will be revised to reflect the additional points and the test bank will be updated.

Discussions -20%

There are 5 discussion topics in this course. Each one requires an original post and you must reply to at least two of your peers.

Introductions (original post and 2 replies)

Introduce yourselves in the introduction discussion board and reply to at least two of your peers by the due date in the course schedule.

Module discussions (original post and 2 replies, there are 4 of these)

In each module you will respond to the associated discussion prompts in the discussion board. Follow the instructions closely for each module. Once you have posted your original response, you will then be able to view everyone else’s responses. For each discussion topic review and reply to at least two of your classmates' posts. Your replies must contain substantial information that will provide your classmates with something they can use in their current or future positions. Once someone has replied to your post, please acknowledge them with a short reply and/or further discussion if needed.

The discussions are designed to encourage interaction between students. Have fun with this activity but take it seriously because it does contribute to your course grade. All discussions MUST be submitted by the published due dates (see the course schedule).

Keep these things in mind when you post on the discussion board:

What is a discussion-type question? A discussion-type question is one that does not necessarily have a right or wrong answer, unlike a factual question. It facilitates the exchange of knowledge and thought. On the other hand, if asked for the sum of 2 + 2, the answer is four. This is a fact and there is no room for discussion. There is a right answer and an unlimited number of wrong answers.

What is a meaningful response? A meaningful response is one that contributes to or, in some way, sheds new light on the discussion. “I agree with the others…” is an example of a meaningless response. Provide support with links to articles or textbook page numbers when necessary.

Grading for discussions

The grades for the discussions are as follows:

  • Each discussion topic is an all or nothing grade. If you do not complete all three portions (1original post with a reply to at least two of your peers) you will not receive any credit for partial work.
  • Substantial information must be included in all three portions.
  • Posting an original post at the last minute does not provide enough time for your peers to respond. Posting an original post in the last days a discussion is open may result in a significant loss of points. Goal dates for original posts are in the course schedule. Post your original response as close to these dates as possible.
  • Professional interactions are expected. Spelling, grammar, and substance really do count. Try not to veer off subject, and be respectful and considerate of your fellow students’ submissions.

The discussion board counts as 20% of your grade. If you do not understand this requirement, please let me know.

Module Assignments 50%

Module 3 Weakness and Strengths in the Workplace (Dropbox Assignment)

Students will complete this assignment individually. Page 184 (Chapter 11, Teamwork) of the text has a checklist that describes elements of teamwork.

This is a multi-part assignment.

1. Review the checklist on page 184.

2. Once you have considered all items, pick two items that you feel are your weaknesses and provide solutions about how you can turn them into strengths (minimum 2 paragraphs).

3. Then pick two items that you feel are your strengths, and provide specific examples of how you demonstrate them in your everyday work environment (minimum 2 paragraphs). 4. Submit your file in the appropriate dropbox assignment as a Word document with a standard APA title page.

Module 4 PowerPoint Presentation (Dropbox Assignment AND Discussion Board)

Students will complete this assignment individually.

This is a two-part assignment.

  1.  Develop and submit a PowerPoint presentation to the dropbox.
  2. Upload the presentation to the discussion board for peer-review.

Presentation

Each student will choose his/her chapter for the presentation. Students will make their selection using the “Groups” tool in D2L. (At the top of your page in D2L, click on the drop down arrow next to “Tools,” then select “Groups.”) Choose one chapter from the learning module. Up to 5 students will be allowed to choose any given chapter. Selection will be made on a first come/first served basis.

The PowerPoint presentations must contain between 8 and 12 content slides; this does not include title, subtitles, or reference slides. Please choose 1 (one) chapter for the presentation. Use other outside sources to bolster your presentation. Please use APA style citations – even if you don’t have the manual, there are websites demonstrating APA as well as resources within the course.

The presentation must be posted to the appropriate dropbox AND discussion board by the due date indicated in the course schedule. The individual responses to the presentations must be posted by the due date indicated in the course schedule.

When posting the presentation in the appropriate discussion board, provide the presentation title and student name in the subject heading. Upload the PowerPoint (.pptx or .ppt) document as an attachment. Please see Module 4 PowerPoint Presentation Instructions in Module 4 for completion of this assignment. Please see the course schedule for the due dates.

Peer-Review

 

  1. After the student loads their final PowerPoint presentation to the appropriate dropbox and discussion board, each student will then view at least one peer presentation from each of the chapters remaining other than their own. These presentations cannot be from the same chapter the student chose for their own presentation.
  2. For each chapter, the student will provide a statement describing what they learned from the presentation (there should be at least six reviews from each student).

A = 100 - 90
B = 89 - 80
C = 79 - 70
D = 69 – 60
F = 59 and below

Submission Format Policy

Please note, quizzes that require paragraph answers are not only graded for content responses but for grammar, spelling, and punctuation. 

 

All assignments must be written at the baccalaureate level and will be graded for accuracy, completeness, quality, spelling, grammar, and integrity.

 


Note: You may not submit a paper for a grade in this class that already has been (or will be) submitted for a grade in another course, unless you obtain the explicit written permission of me and the other instructor involved in advance.

Late Paper Policy

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is the use of someone else's thoughts, words, ideas, or lines of argument in your own work without appropriate documentation (a parenthetical citation at the end and a listing in "Works Cited")-whether you use that material in a quote, paraphrase, or summary. It is a theft of intellectual property and will not be tolerated, whether intentional or not.

Honor System 

 

RADS 4513 adheres to the MSU Code of Conduct.  In particular, academic dishonesty, however small, creates a breach in academic integrity.  A student’s participation in this course comes with the expectation that his or her work will be completed in full observance of the MSU Code of Student Conduct.  A student should consult the current Student Handbook for answers to any questions about the code.

 

Many components of RADS 4513 are designed to be highly interactive with students helping each other learn.  Students are encouraged to take full advantage of many resources available including online WebCT course resources, Internet sites, other textbooks and journals, faculty, and peers when answering objectives. This interactive collegial learning environment is conducive for life-long learning.

 

Specific components of RADS 4513 are designed to represent the efforts of each student INDIVIDUALLY and are NOT to be shared or copied (plagiarized) from other sources.  These components include the module activities, Blackboard Open Book Module Quizzes and the Blackboard Comprehensive Final Exam.  When students submit their efforts for grading, they are attesting they abided by this rule. 

 

Cheating includes, but is not limited to, (1) use of any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests, or examinations; (2) dependence upon the aid of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems, or completing other assignments; or (3) the acquisition of tests or other academic materials belonging to the university faculty or staff without permission. 

 

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of, by paraphrase or direct quotation without correct citation in the text and on the reference list, the published or unpublished works of another person. Students may NOT submit papers and assignments that they have previously submitted for this or other courses. The use of materials generated by agencies engaged in "selling" term papers is also plagiarism. Students are encouraged to review the tutorials and suggested websites for more information about plagiarism. Papers and other assignments may be submitted to an external agency for verification of originality and authenticity.

 

Academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism, etc.) will not be tolerated in this class. Whenever a student is unsure of whether a particular situation will be interpreted as academic dishonesty, he/she should ask the instructor for clarification.  If students are guilty of academic dishonesty, a grade of zero (0) may be given for the quiz, assignment, or course.  Cases may also be referred to the Dean of Students for possible dismissal from the university. 

 

 PLEASE NOTE

By enrolling in this course, the student expressly grants MSU a “limited right” in all intellectual property created by the student for the purpose of this course.  The “limited right” shall include but shall not be limited to the right to reproduce the student’s work product in order to verify originality and authenticity, and for educational purposes. Specifically, faculty may submit student papers and assignments to an external agency to verify originality and authenticity and to detect for plagiarism.

 

Writing Proficiency Requirement

All students seeking a Bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University must satisfy a writing proficiency requirement once they've 1) passed the 6 hours of Communication Core and and 2) earned 60 hours. You may meet this requirement by passing either the Writing Proficiency Exam or English 2113. Please keep in mind that, once you've earned over 90 hours, you lose the opportunity to take the $25 exam and have no option but to enroll in the three-credit hour course. Campus Carry

Senate Bill 11 passed by the 84th Texas Legislature allows licensed handgun holders to carry concealed handguns on campus, effective August 1, 2016.
