Description

This position provides broad support, including first-line technical support and day-to-day administration, for all aspects of library systems, software, and technology. Leads Moffett Library's effort to enhance the user experience, both on and off-campus, through its online library services. Responsible for overseeing the library website, library information and discovery systems, as well as other specialized library systems. Assists with technology planning and project implementation. Reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical Services.

 
Examples

Primary duties include managing, configuring, maintaining, implementing, and troubleshooting the library's systems and online services. Serves as co-administrator of Moffett Library's integrated library system and discovery service. Creates and maintains the library website; ensures adherence to accessibility standards and assesses usability. Administers online databases and troubleshoots and resolves connectivity issues such as authentication, databases and e-journal changes, subscription platform changes, and network and IP issues. Helps coordinate and provides library staff training for library systems and innovative technologies. Performs assessment of library technologies and web services. Recommends modern technology applications and manages their implementation. Serves as the primary liaison with the campus Information Technology department. Maintains working knowledge of current library and web technology, best practices, and proficiency in maintaining library systems. Serves on library and university committees, elected, and assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

 
Physical Condition

Experience

Experience designing, developing, and maintaining websites. Experience with HTML, CSS, and other web programming languages. Experience with content management systems. Demonstrated ability to work with people with varying levels of computer skills and the ability to make technology understandable to the campus community. Strong computer literacy is required. Some supervisory experience preferred.

 
Knowledge

Knowledge of current web technologies and best practices, including web accessibility standards. Familiarity with content management systems and the ability to manage CMS-driven websites. Working knowledge of digital asset management systems. Familiarity with academic libraries and Library of Congress classification. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite. Ability to supervise and train library staff and student assistants.

 
Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, web development, or a related technical discipline preferred. High school graduate with experience in related areas required.
