The IELI Program Specialist teaches full time each long semester and summer unless otherwise prescribed in one of the IELI programs. Supports the Assistant Director in the development and oversight of all IELI programs. Works directly with various MSU Texas offices regarding registration and billing. Creates reports and distributes to SACM, ITAF and various MSU Texas offices as needed. Responsible for the integrated study of English as a Second Language (ESL) for adult English language learners (ELL) including international military personnel, academically bound students, community learners, and professional development students. Assists in the scheduling, paperwork, and training of instructors. Organizes and keeps records of student tuition payments and grades. Creates or modifies curriculum as needed for the program. Reports directly to the Assistant Director, IELI. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Teaches 15-19 hours weekly in various levels of mastery for any IELI program. Manages the daily activities of IELI students. Available for weekly tutoring. Responsible for correspondence with International students accepted into program. Gathers grade reports from teachers. Supports the Assistant Director in the registration, testing, and placement of students and the scheduling of classes, including classroom assignments. Assesses student needs and goals and develops appropriate new and innovative curriculum content at all levels of instruction. Assists instructors and provides mentoring and feedback; helps instructors integrate technology into the curriculum in the Smart classrooms, computer labs, and Media Center.
Physical Condition
Two years experience teaching in an ELS/EFL classroom with an adult ELL population. Requires experience in teaching in a college setting. Requires experience with word processing and data base computer programs. Experience in creating and delivering professional development opportunities. Managerial experience strongly desirable as well as a background in teaching military personnel.
Knowledge of issues, trends, theories, and methodologies related to adult English language learners. Must have strong public speaking skills. Ability to follow generally accepted office practices and procedures and proficiency in the use of computers and software programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and proficiency in Banner preferred.
Master's degree in related field, required. Advanced Certification in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) strongly preferred.
Additional Requirements
Must have a demonstrated strong interest in and capacity for teaching. Teaching experience preferably in TESL, TEFL, or TESOL. Must be well-organized; possess excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; be able to work effectively with a diverse student body, and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to set, plan, and achieve ambitious goals. * Regular reliable attendance is required. *This position is designated as security sensitive (Mod) and requires a criminal background check
