Campus Residency Requirements

The campus residency policy is based on the knowledge that living in university housing can provide both educational and social opportunities important to the success of college students.  All students enrolling at Midwestern State University are required to live in university housing unless they:

  1. Are living in the home of their parents or legal guardian within 60 miles of the campus and commuting to class;
  2. Are married and living with their spouse;
  3. Have accumulated 45 semester hours of college academic credit as a post-high school student prior to the first day of classes for the housing agreement period. Hours achieved while in high school are not counted (e.g. concurrent or dual credit);
  4. Have reached the age of 21 prior to the first day of classes for the housing agreement period;
  5. Are part-time students enrolled in 11 hours or less for the fall or spring semester.

Students enrolled in courses and required to reside on campus but who have not signed up for campus housing may be assessed the semi-private semester room rate for Killingsworth or Pierce Hall.



In unusual circumstances the Director of Residence Life & Housing may grant exceptions to the Housing Policy. Interested students should contact the Office of Residence Life & Housing to obtain the required forms and/or to request further information regarding exemptions to the Housing Policy. During the time an exemption request is under review, the student remains obligated to live in University Housing.  Deadlines for housing policy exemption requests are as follows:

Fall Semester:  June 1st

Spring Semester:  January 1st

Exemption requests will not be taken after June 1st for the following Fall semester and after January 1st for the Spring semester.  Students may request an exemption form by emailing

Incoming Students

Once accepted to the University, new students applying for housing should log into your ResCenter portal (Click here to log in to the portal) and complete the Housing Reservation Questionnaire.  Upon completing, you will be directed to the TouchNet system to submit your $250 advance payment.

Per Texas Senate Bill 1107 (effective January 1, 2012), all new students under the age of 30 must receive a bacterial meningitis immunization at least 10 days before moving on campus.  MSU has contracted with Magnus Health to collect, review, and securely store all student records pertaining to the meningitis vaccine.  Additional information can be found at the health care center Click here for the bacterial meningitis information.  A copy of Senate Bill 1107 can be found at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Current Students

Current students will receive detailed information in late January about the returning student room selection process.  Students are encouraged to attend floor meetings and to watch their email carefully for instructions about applying for housing for the following Fall semester. 


Summer Housing

All students residing on campus for the summer will be assigned to an apartment in Sunwatcher Village or Sundance Court.

Unless graduating after completing the Summer I or Summer II session, summer residents are required to have a course schedule for the subsequent Fall semester.  Enrollment in summer courses is not a prerequisite to live in campus housing.

Canceling Housing

To cancel your housing reservation commitment and agreement, log on to your housing portal. Click on the “CANCEL Fall 2020 Housing Application” link to complete the cancel.

Housing Reservation Commitment & Agreement

The Housing Reservation Commitment & Agreement is binding for the full academic year, provided the student is enrolled at Midwestern State University.  Students are encouraged to be familiar with the terms and conditions outlined in the full agreement.
