Prospective graduate students should submit an application to the Department of History. Students are accepted as graduate assistants on the basis of academic merit.  They serve in two capacities.  Most are assigned to assist a professor with organizational duties such as taking class attendance, entering grades, proctoring exams and collecting research materials.  Others are assigned to a select professor teaching a large survey course.  They assist the professor and supervise discussion classes of six-to-twelve students.  Graduate Assistants must be enrolled each regular semester for at least six semester hours of credit.
